Group B Gallery - Jose Mejia's K20 Integra
In preparation of Club Racer's VTEC Club Round 2 at Buttonwillow Raceway, Jose Mejia made some progressive changes to his K20 powered Integra including the addition of ABS, a custom exhaust manifold, and a new wheel and tire setup.
They were changes that paid off, as Jose was able to reset the VTEC Club Group A2 FF NA record with a blazing fast 1'52.6 at CW13; beating the old record by 4 seconds. Let's take a closer look at his build.
Jose runs a staggered set of NC-01 wheels with a 15x9 +30 front and a 15x8 +35 rear, wrapped in Nankang CR-1 tires - a 245 series front and 225 series rear.
This is actually a great way to showcase the ability and ease of fitting a 15x9 with OEM fenders. You'll see, despite the lowered ride height from the 2-way JRZ dampers, the 15x9 +30 Group B NC-01 wheels fit well within the factory Integra wheel well. Jose runs a bit over -3 degrees of camber in the front with no changes to caster. The car is able to drive both on the street and track without issue. Just another reason why we believe that the 15x9 is a superior size in most cases.
The rear wheel well of the Integra also allow for ample fitting of the 15x8 wheel with a 225/45 series tire with minimal camber change.
The newly installed ABS unit, sourced from a DC5-R, was installed on a switch so that Jose could turn it on and off depending on need.
The minimal interior is rounded out with a Personal steering wheel, Battlecraft shift knob, and a Recaro Pro Racer SPG seat.
The external reservoirs of the JRZ dampers are mounted in the back part of the cage.
Prior to the ABS, the Alcon front brakes were a bit overpowering. It seems that the braking of the Integra has been sorted as of now though.
Powering the car is a K20 motor with stock bottom end and 2.2 Drag Cartel camshafts and Pracworks intake manifold. The newly installed Myers Competition header, paired with the other bolt on parts brings the power level to a healthy 248 horsepower.
The transmission was built by Ghostwerks and features an OS Giken differential, but the factory gears remain untouched.
We certainly appreciate the simplicity and function of Jose's Integra, and hope to see him continue to get faster as he dials in the new changes. Congratulations on the new record!
